Two-try Neville helps Ireland to victory over Italy – Women’s Rugby Six Nations

from RBS SIx Nations:

The Irish were given a big fright in last year’s Championship by the Azzurri when they trailed in the second half before eventually coming out on top 35-17.

There were no such scares this time as former captain Neville bagging tries either side of the break with Alison Miller going over in the second half while Niamh Briggs added seven points with the boot.

However Ireland found it hard to get into top gear in the first half. Despite dominating possession they had only a Niamh Briggs drop goal on ten minutes to show for their early efforts.

The breakthrough came just five minutes before halftime through UL Bohemians star Neville which eased the nerves in the home dresssing room.

Any hopes of an Italian comeback were dashed as 26-year-old Neville got her second seven minutes after the break and on 61 minutes Portlaoise winger Miller also crossed.

The visitors did grab a consolation try when, with time almost up, replacement front-rower Silvia Peron powered her way over the line but the conversion was off-target.
