The Washington D.C. Furies Women’s Rugby Football Club is actively seeking experienced coaches committed to building a championship-caliber program to join their team beginning in Spring 2012. Candidates are sought to fill two open assistant coaching positions, one specializing in working with backline players and another specializing with forwards. The coaching staff is currently led by head coach and former 15s and 7s US Women’s National Team Captain Nancy Fitz.

Responsibilities include assisting and/or leading in the following areas:

• Developing practice plans
• Running team practices and attending matches
• Game tape analysis and individual feedback
• Developing overall and subunit strategies
• Team selections

Compensation:

• Coaching stipend
• Reimbursement of all travel (flight and lodging) to away matches
• Reimbursement for coaching courses or clinics attended while with the club

The Furies participate in the Women’s Premier League, the highest level of women’s rugby competition in the country, placing 7th in 2009 and 2011 and 6th in 2010. The team is comprised of a mix of elite, developmental, and beginner athletes. A number of Furies players are currently members of the 15s and 7s Women’s National Team selection pools, the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union (MARFU) senior select-side 15s and 7s teams, and the MARFU Under-23 select-side team.

Practices take place in the Washington, D.C. metro area, and matches are scheduled throughout the United States in both the spring and the fall. Prior coaching and/or playing experience is required. Prior coaching of women is not necessary.

Cornell Women’s Rugby Football Club (CWRFC) has been a force in the New York State Rugby Conference for over 20 years. Since 1999, the club has advanced to the NRU Final Four eight times, and in 2000, the team attended the USA Rugby National Sweet 16.

In 2008, the club lost its coach, so ever since, the club has been searching for a replacement. Recently, the NYS Rugby Conference disbanded, so the CWRFC will be moving to the Ivy League in Fall of 2012. With this switch, the team recognizes that it really needs a coach to guide the team through the league change and to establish a more permanent source of rugby knowledge. For the last three years, the team has been under the direction of player-elected captains, and a student board has been managing the team’s logistics. With the addition of a coach, the captains and student board would help the coach get acquainted with the team and would assist him/her in any way possible throughout the following seasons.

The team is searching for someone who has a considerable amount of rugby knowledge. Prior coaching experience and a coaching certification is encouraged but not required. Along with the St. Louis Sabres, the newly formed Tulsa women’s rugby team is also looking for some players to pick up for the Ozark tournament in Little Rock on the weekend of November 12/13. Tulsa has already paid the entry fee so players would only need to arrange for their own transportation and lodging for the tournament.

Please spread the word. The St. Louis Sabres are looking for some players to pick up for the Ozark tournament in Little Rock on the weekend of November 12/13. It will probably cost about $20 a person for the entry fee and they could make their own hotel arrangements or split costs and bunk with the Sabres.

We are working with USAR to bring you the WPL, D1 & D2 Championships on UStream again this year. Are you excited to be able to tell your family, friends and teammates that they will be able to watch you LIVE on the Internet? We are too, but we are currently using borrowed sound equipment and really need our own. As we all know, eventually borrowed does mean we need to return it. I received a note today from Tina N. asking if I had any resources for oppurtunities for players to play or coach Internationally. Right now I only know of one source and that is at Women’s Rugby Recruitement . I am sure there are other sources out there though, if you know of one please leave a comment or hit me up on Facebook or Twitter.

The YSC Media Team is excited to announce we are parterning with A Rugby Life and the Colorado Sports Ranch to bring you women’s rugby podcasts.

The initial focus of the podcasts will be on the upcoming D1 Playoffs, WPL, D1 and D2 Championships but we will also consider the Women’s National Team and a few other topics. As we get our feel for podcasts we will begin to branch out to focus on all aspects of women’s rugby as well.
