Welcome to another year of the TOLA 7s Series. Lots of teams are involved this year and it should be better than ever!

What is the TOLA 7s Series?

TOLA was started in 2009 by a few different teams and was created to promote a 7s Series in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas. The series is semi-competitive but also allows for social teams to participate.  Late in 2009, a women’s bracket was added and so this series is bigger and better than ever before! We think the best part of the series is that we get to travel to fun rugby tournaments, meet new people and the points system is designed to make the Series fun and competitive.

Points System

• 6 points are awarded to the winning team of each TOLA Series Tournament
• 4 points awarded to the runner up team of each TOLA Series Tournament
• 3 points awarded to the third place team of each TOLA Series Tournament
• 2 points awarded to the fourth place team of each TOLA Series Tournament
• 2 points awarded to the winner of any consolation bracket of each TOLA Series Tournament
• 1 bonus point awarded for each tournament entered. This includes all tournaments (TOLA and Social) registered on the TOLA website
• 2 “at large” points may be awarded at each TOLA Series events by the TOLA board for a team or teams (1 pt. each) that display character that exemplifies the spirit of rugby.
  • Examples of behavior that will be considered for these points include travelling a great distance, entering multiple teams, assisting the tournament hosts in some way, playing up a division to fill a bracket, etc.

This weekend I had the pleasure of playing in the Lonestar 7s tournament in Dallas, TX. It was HOT as balls but the teams drank lots of water and played some great rugby! The final came down between Oklahoma and the Satiated Beavers (Austin Valkryries 7s team) and was a heck of a game. It was very back and forth with the Beavers pulling it out in the end.

For this week’s rugby video, I thought we could take a look back to last year’s Dallas 7s Tournament! We had 10 women’s teams and of course the infamous Debutante Ball (prom dress rugby). We are pleased to announce this year’s installment of the annual Lone Star Classic Sevens Tournament in Dallas, TX. As in Year’s past, this tournament will feature Men’s, Women’s, and Youth Divisions.

The tournament will be held on Saturday, June 5th, 2010 at Lake Highlands Park in Dallas, TX.

We urge teams to pay in advance as we were forced to turn teams away last year. The Men’s division will be limited to 20 teams based on first paid.

Once again we are planning having the Women’s Debutante Ball prior to the Men’s Final AND hosting our infamous pub crawl immediately following the tournament.

It’s that time of year again and Little Rock is hosting its annual Sweat 7s tournament. it will be held on July 25, 2009, at the Greater Little Rock Rugby Complex. This year brings a new level of competition as we are now part of the TOLA series. Entry fee is $200. Check out the flyer and hope you can make it.
