Rugby Video Monday: ABC News and Good Morning America: Marysol Castro Inspired by Hometown Rugby Players

from ABCnews.com and Good Morning America:

In 1995, newly elected South African President Nelson Mandela saw rugby as a tool to inspire unity among his countrymen, who had been alienated from each other for so many years by apartheid.
Teacher Lisa Lake used rugby to inspire poor kids from rough neighborhoods.

Ten years later in the Bronx, N.Y., high school history teacher Lisa Lake had a similar vision: use rugby as a tool to inspire her students — students who were alienated from society by poverty, gangs and violent crime — to do better.

“These kids need somewhere to be, they need somewhere to shoot for and they need help to get into college,” Lake said. An athlete herself, Lake knew the benefits of organized sports. With few resources, Lake gathered as many students as she could to start a rugby team at the Bronx high school where she taught humanities.

Rugby Video Monday: Human Guinea Pigs?

The video this week is a bit different than I have posted in the past, but I found it quite amusing! I am not sure why the guys are dressed in drag, but it appears to just be a thing they do? I also noticed that there are lots of versions of these videos so they have quite a cult following…

Rugby Video Monday: Salam Rugby

With the recent news frenzy about the Iranian Women’s Rugby Team I found this video incredibly interesting. This is a rare look at the Rugby Federation in Iran and especially the women that play rugby. Unfortunately Faramarz requested that I remove his video and so I have replaced it with another.

The second video is a news story covering women’s rugby in Iran.

Rugby Video Monday: Analyzing Videos as a Referee is a bit Different!

I recently stumbled upon a Vimeo site that has great example videos of law breakdowns. Here is an example of Law 15.7 (c) Players falling on or over the players lying on the ground after a tackle. Videos are taken from the IRB.com site…

Law Clips from the 25 May 2010 meeting between Tier 1 Coaches and iRB Referee Manager’s meeting.

Posted for the purpose of discussion with my referee coach. All rights iRB.

Rugby Video Monday: Dan Payne Rucking Video

This is a great instructional rucking video from Dan Payne that was sent to me by Paul Simko. Dan reviews several issues that teams run in to including various rucking techniques and ways to combat them. Great video!
